By: A.C. Ewing

Maybe you are dealing with occasional mild cases of acne breakouts and pimples and you don’t want to spend the money buying costly over-the-counter acne treatment products; maybe you are concerned about possible negative reactions to the ingredients used in those acne products; maybe these products just haven’t worked for your particular acne problem. You may find homemade acne remedies to be a practical alternative to the commercially prepared acne medication to manage your acne breakouts and pimples.

You can save money and avoid the danger of negative side effects of using over-the-counter acne medicines by making your own homemade acne remedies with common ingredients that you may already have in your kitchen.

Here are three natural acne remedies that have worked for many acne sufferers. Depending on your type of acne and its severity, one of the acne remedies may be just what you need for getting rid of acne and pimples:

1. Oatmeal – Oatmeal is good for you whether you use it internally or externally. Eating oatmeal is good for your heart. It can also be used as a facemask to treat your acne. Oatmeal absorbs skin oils from your face. To use, mix the oatmeal with water to create a thick paste. Apply it over the affected areas of your face and let it dry for 10 to 20 minutes, and then rinse off with warm water. For best results, apply the paste twice a day.

2. Banana – Like oatmeal, your can eat banana as part of a healthy diet, or use it on your skin to treat your acne. You can make a banana mask by mashing up the banana and spreading it over acne affected areas. Leave the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes and clean off with warm water, then pat your skin dry. You can also eat the banana, and then use the banana peel as a rub on your acne. Rub the affected area of your face with the inside of the peel to reduce swelling due to acne.

3. Tomato – Tomatoes can be used directly on affected skin to treat acne and pimples. You can cut a tomato in half, drain most of the juice so it does not drip, and apply the fresh part of the tomato directly to your pimples. Take precautions so that you do not strain your clothes or furniture with the juice of the tomato. Leave the tomato juices on your skin for about 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water.

4. Toothpaste – Toothpaste has been used since the dawn of acne treatments. Many acne sufferers have found toothpaste to be an effective homemade acne remedy. Toothpaste appears to reduce the inflammation caused by acne. For best results, dubs of toothpaste should be applied directly to the pimples before going to bed and rise off in the morning. Don’t use gel-based toothpastes, as they won't work as well as the plain paste ones. Test the toothpaste in an inconspicuous place of your body to see if you are allergy before using it on noticeable areas on your face.

Keep in mind that not all homemade acne treatments work for everyone. You may have to experiment with different remedies before finding the one that works for your acne. Once you find the one that works for you, the homemade acne remedy will save you money and minimize the risk of negative reactions to harmful chemicals.
